Cover Dark Circles Under Eyes Tips

There can be numerous reasons as to why we have dark circles under our eyes. Some reasons include genetics, low iron, or late nights with little to no sleep. No matter the reason, occasionally everyone will need some extra assistance to appear bright eyed and more awake. We came up with 3 super easy steps so you can hide your dark circles and bags under your eyes.

Foundation

In order to get rid of unwanted bags and dark circles under your eyes, the best thing for you to do is get a foundation that is able to perfectly hide and cancel out the dark shades. A full coverage powder formula foundation or a stick will work. Whichever you decide to use, application technique is a major factor, regardless of what one you pick. You might be wondering if you should put on concealer or foundation first. There is no set rule about this but we recommend using foundation first and concealer second. Some people like to use concealer first but if you use a pigmented foundation to hide the dark circles, it’s possible to use less concealer. If you have experience with makeup, you might have tried to use concealer, only to realize that it can look cakey. In order to avoid this, you might want to only use foundation. To prevent a cakey look, use a mineral full coverage foundation.

It’s not just a simple formula when applying foundation under your eyes, its technique. There are different foundation types that will alter exactly how you should apply it. There are cream powder formulas and liquid mineral formulas. In all circumstances, it is important to use a gentle, light hand, as well as certain tools to help you apply the perfect makeup look. One very important trick to remember when applying foundation is “less is more” and “a little goes a long way”. A common mistake most people experience is if you use more, it will hide the darkness more. This, however, is not true. All you will require is a small amount of some good foundation and it will have the power to cancel and even out the appearance of dark circles and bags.

Yellow toned foundation that’s just one tone lighter than your natural skin tone is good for covering up blush-black circles. In order to cover up the more brownish dark circles, we recommend using orange, reddish, or peach hues. These will balance out the darkness. Always remember, you can always add more but it’s hard to remove once on. With our lives being so busy, no one has time to redo their makeup all the time. The best thing to do to help control exactly how much you are applying is to use a beauty blender.

Concealer

Almost everyone has had a run-in with concealers over the years. Trying to make concealers work properly for dark circles under the eyes can be very challenging. Depending on what concealer you use and how you apply it can determine how good or bad your makeup look turns out. In order to hide those pesky dark circles and not make it look like you have overly light spots under your eyes, you need the appropriate colour that will properly conceal the darkness. The most common misconception is that you need to pick a concealer which is one or two shades lighter than your natural skin tone. However, this only works to lighten the skin and also conceal blemishes. When talking about hiding dark circles, you need to pick a concealer in a shade that counteracts the undertones under your eyes. For example, yellow tones hide purple circles and peachy tones will hide brown circles. This technique is also known as colour correcting. So, after using these colours to neutralize the dark circles, now is the time to apply a concealer that is close as possible to your natural skin tone.

Spot correcting with concealer can be handy when quickly trying to cover up blemishes or using it as a quick highlight on your nose. But if you are attempting to use concealer as a way to hide dark spots, this will require more skill, time, and thought. You shouldn’t actually apply concealer right on top of your dark circles. As we mentioned earlier, using concealer is a second step in the process of hiding unwanted dark circles. If you attempt to only use concealer on dark spots, you might accidentally end up emphasizing the very thing you are trying to hide.

If you are wondering just how to apply your concealer under your eyes, we are here to help. First thing is to not rub or smear it onto your skin. There is a triangle technique you can use with a beauty blender to dab the concealer properly under your eyes. Swipe a very small amount of concealer just under your lashes and create an upside-down triangle. Now you grab your beauty blender and blend away! This will make sure that you will cover the area evenly, giving you a more natural look. It can be tricky trying to figure out proper blending techniques. If you don’t have a beauty blender, try gently using your finger to tap and blend out the concealer, or you could use a sponge, or even a makeup brush will be able to gently spread the concealer around.

Powder

Now that powder isn’t the only product out there you don’t have to worry about powder creasing or clogging up the area under your eyes. Now, in order to hide unwanted dark circles, you can use a smoothing powder instead. This will keep your makeup look in place. Now that you have your foundation base and applied and blended your upside-down concealer triangles, you can finish off the process with your powder. Using a little powder last will help to hold your foundation and concealer in one place, allowing you to have a picture-perfect look all day long! As an added bonus, powder can act as a barrier for your skin against things like environmental aggressors and pollutants.

If you are interested to find out how to properly set the concealer under your eyes, we can enlighten you now. It doesn’t matter if you use the baking technique with translucent formula or a press powder, doing either will help you to prevent creases and caking. If you are having trouble setting your concealer with powder, we have a recommendation. A good start is using special hybrid formulas so that your skin won’t dry out. For oily skin types, it is best to dab or sweep the powder. Doing this will dull the shine as well as cover the dark circles. If you use a brightening formula, this will give you a lifted look while complementing your concealer. For very dry skin, it might be in your best interest to eliminate using powder all together.
